Dr. Marian Levy has been named assistant dean of Students and Public Health Practice
for the School of Public Health at the University of Memphis. She is also an associate
professor in the School.
She is also the current president of the Tennessee Public Health Association.
A registered dietitian, Levy has conducted several research initiatives to reduce
pediatric obesity, increase access to care, and reduce health disparities. In 2011,
she was named an Outstanding Dietetics Educator by the American Dietetic Association
and the Outstanding Dietetics Educator for Tennessee.
At the University, she is co-investigator of a $2.6 million award from the Department
of Defense to study military and civilian interface during emergency response. As
a consultant to the Shelby County Health Department, she developed the Pandemic Influenza
Response Plan for Memphis and Shelby County.
Levy received the Shelby County Mayor’s 2008 Ruby R. Wharton Award in the area of
Race Relations and was awarded the 2009-2010 Alumni Association Distinguished Teaching
Award from the University of Memphis.
Levy holds a doctorate in public health from UCLA.
