March 7, 2014 - The University of Memphis chapter of Up 'til Dawn has announced a
yearly fundraising total of $143,190.87 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
A group of 10 board members began the efforts last summer, and more than 1,200 students
participated throughout the year.
Students raise funds during the semester through letter campaigns and a variety of
activities such as skating and bowling events.
"Every year this group impresses with their commitment to a vision and their tremendous
support of St. Jude Children's Hospital," said Justin Lawhead, associate dean for
Leadership and Involvement. "They have worked tirelessly every year to further the
very important mission of that hospital. It is just another example of the wonderful
accomplishments our student leaders make on campus and in the community."
The program began at the U of M 15 years ago and has spread to more than 275 campuses
across the country, and now generates nearly $5 million annually for groundbreaking
research and patient care at St. Jude. The U of M chapter continues to be a top fundraising
group and has raised more than $1.5 million.
