The cast of MTV’s reality documentary series The Buried Life will discuss “The Buried Life: What Do You Want to Do Before You Die?” on Wednesday,
Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. in the University Center Ballroom. The program is free and open
to the public.
The Buried Life originated when four twentysomethings – Ben Nemtin, Dave Lingwood, Duncan Penn, and
Jonnie Penn – set out in an old RV to complete a list of “100 Things We Want To Do
Before We Die.” For each item they cross off their bucket list, they also help a stranger
achieve one of his or her own dreams.
In mid-2008, MTV helped the team check off item number 53 on its list, “make a TV
show,” by capturing the four in a reality series. The show is done in real time with
no manipulation and no assistance from MTV, except for filming. Over an eight-week
period, a grassroots movement grew to more than 1.2 million Facebook fans, more than
150,000 Twitter followers, and 2 million views per month on the show’s website.
The cast’s visit to the University of Memphis is sponsored by the Honors Student Council,
Student Event Allocation, Phi Kappa Phi honor society, and the Guild of Determined
Individuals.
Parking is available in the Zach Curlin garage adjacent to the University Center.
