As part of its Midday Moves program, the University of Memphis will attempt to break
a Guinness World Record on Tuesday, Oct. 29. The Alumni Association, Blue Crew, Student
Ambassador Board, Future Alumni of Memphis and Memphis Healthy U are inviting everyone
to help break the world record for the number of people to do sit-ups in one location.
The world record currently is 250.
Students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends are invited to participate.
Sign-in will begin at 12:15 p.m. on the Alumni Mall. (In case of inclement weather,
the event will be moved to the University Center Ballroom). The world record attempt
will begin at 12:45 p.m. Participants must do sit-ups for one minute (a minimum of
A complimentary lunch will be provided by Aramark to the first 500 participants.
The event also will include a costume contest; costumes are encouraged but not required.
Midday Moves is an initiative proposed by Interim President Brad Martin to have 15
to 20 minutes of a physical activity each weekday during the lunch hour on the Alumni
