The Holiday Inn at the University of Memphis has earned the InterContinental Hotels
Group Torchbearer Award for the ninth consecutive year as one of the best Holiday
Inn hotels in the worldwide chain. It achieved that distinction by achieving the highest
levels of excellence in all aspects of operation and customer satisfaction. The U
of M hotel was one of 24 selected for the award.
The hotel also received the Newcomer of the Year Award in 2003.
The Torchbearer Awards will be presented at a special ceremony during the InterContinental
Hotels Group Americas Investor and Leadership Conference Oct. 24-26 in Las Vegas.
“There are more than 1,000 other full-service Holiday Inn hotels competing to be listed
among the best,” said Tom Johnson, managing partner of the U of M hotel. “Nine consecutive
years to receive this recognition is highly unusual. When I think about the fact that
we serve more than 2,000 events and 28,000 hotel guests in a year, I am even prouder
of our staff and management team.”
