Project PI - Dr. Don Franceschetti
Don Franceschetti is Dunavant University Professor of Physics and Chemistry and former
Director of the University’s Learning Communities Program at the University of Memphis.
He is the director of the overall MemphiSTEM project. He received the B.S. degree
in chemistry from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York in 1969 and
the Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Princeton University in 1974. Following postdoctoral
appointments in physics at the Universities of Illinois, North Carolina and Utrecht
(Netherlands) he joined the Physics Department at the University of Memphis in 1979.
His research interests include the dynamics of ion motion in solid and liquid electrolytes,
the development of intelligent tutoring systems for physics, and STEM education.

co-PI - Dr. John Haddock
John R. Haddock is a Professor of Mathematical Sciences and former Vice Provost for
Academic Affairs at the University of Memphis. He manages the Math Bootcamp program
for MemphiSTEM. He received his B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in mathematics from Southern
Illinois University – Carbondale in 1966 and 1970, respectively. His research interests
include dynamical systems, qualitative behavior of solutions of differential and integral
equations, and issues related to mathematics and science education.

co-PI - Ms. Regina Hairston
Regina J. Hairston is the Director of the Tennessee Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority
Participation Program at the University of Memphis funded by NSF and the Gaining Early
Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR-UP Memphis) funded by the
Department of Education. She provides professional counseling to students majoring
in STEM fields through programs such as MemphiSTEM and NSF-sponsored S-STEM and CSEMS
programs. She received her B.A. from Cleveland State University in 1979, the M.S.
in counseling psychology in 1996, and the MBA in 2002 from the University of Memphis.

co-PI - Dr. Stephanie Ivey
Stephanie Ivey is an A2H Fellow and Associate Professor of Civil Engineering at the
University of Memphis. She manages the Networking and STEM Club programs for MemphiSTEM.
She received her B.S.C.E in 1996, M.S. in civil engineering in 1998, and Ph.D. in
engineering in 2003 from the University of Memphis. Her primary research interests
are in intermodal freight modeling, truck safety, transportation policy, and engineering
education.

Data Manager - Dr. Rachel Arthur
Rachel Arthur manages all of the data and project evaluation strategies for MemphiSTEM.
She received a B.Sc. in Social Psychology and Sociology from the University of Ulster,
Northern Ireland in 1994, a M.Sc. in Research Methods in Psychology from Strathclyde
University, Scotland in 1995, and a Ph.D. in Psychology from South Bank University,
London in 2003. Her research interests include lexical acquisition, reading comprehension
strategies and processes, and STEM education.
