Why Choose Memphis for my MFA?
Welcome to the University of Memphis! The UofM is located in the heart of one of the country's most vibrant cities. Our students are part of a diverse and supportive community, and they are never without inspiration. Since our MFA's founding in 1988, graduates have gone on to publish their work and to teach, edit, and contribute their talents to major literary venues.
Our award-winning Creative Writing faculty mentor students in fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. Workshops and other courses allow students to hone their craft. Students can personalize their degree by choosing between five different tracks: Studio, Literary Studies, Creative/Professional Writing, TESL/TEFL, and Cross-Disciplinary Studies.
UofM students are eligible for graduate assistantships as well as scholarships and other funding. Click the link on the left to learn more. Tuition is competitive with that of other MFA programs. Memphis offers an affordable cost of living and a rich cultural environment.
- The Pinch, a prestigious national literary journal, offers editorial and publishing experience
- The River City Writers Series brings renowned authors to campus for workshops, interviews with students, and readings.
