Hearing Loss Prevention

Audiologists help prevent, as well as identify and treat, hearing loss. Improvements in acoustical technology now enable a child to privately wear in their ear a device that may produce loud ear-damaging sound without the parent's awareness. Hearing loss prevention involves counseling children and adults of the damaging effects of exposure to excessively loud noise, establishing baselines of hearing capability, providing ear protectors to shield the ear from loud noises, and consulting with schools/teachers and industry on effective noise reduction methods.
