Adult Services for Standard English Training (ASSET)

This program is for adults with international accents or regional dialects who want to increase their proficiency in speaking Standard American English (SAE). Individual and group sessions provide instruction and speech activities with a focus on practical applications. Participants can increase their awareness of speech differences, facility in oral SAE, and self-confidence in communicating.

Components of the ASSET Program:

• Comprehensive evaluations of English pronunciation
• Individual sessions which focus on standard pronunciation, stress, and intonation
• Group sessions which focus on figurative language and practicing new skills with others
• Role-playing opportunities to improve teaching and interviewing skills

University of Memphis students enroll in course AUSP 4111/6111 for these services.
