Black Scholars Unlimited – Open Mic Harlem Renaissance Night

Black Scholars Unlimited will host an open mic night featuring University of Memphis students performing original and existing music. Performances will highlight works from the Harlem Renaissance era.
NAACP's Bringing Black History to Life

The University of Memphis Chapter of NAACP is bringing Black history to life through its LIVE museum event on February 6 at 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the UC Atrium! Come out and expand your knowledge on various historical figures and their significance to society. You don't want to miss out on this informative and entertaining experience. Free food will be provided!

Black Scholars Unlimited Igniting Excitement

For more than 20 years, Black Scholars Unlimited has recognized African-American faculty at the University of Memphis for their contributions and dedication to academia. The Igniting Excitement is an award which recognizes and rewards those college professors who "ignite excitement" and encourages his or her students to strive or high academic achievement both inside and outside of the classroom. This year's recipient will be Dr. Rosie Phillips Bingham.
NAACP's Freedom Awards/Mahogany Ball

The Freedom Awards & Mahogany Ball is an annual event, hosted by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People at The University of Memphis. This event highlights influential leaders in the community, as well as on campus. The Freedom Awards will honor such persons in the following categories: Religion, Community Service, Education and Young Alumni. Other awards are presented to minority organizations on campus (i.e. NPHC, Artistic Expression, Community Service, etc.).
An Evening with Michael Eric Dyson

"An evening with..." features a well-known speaker to discuss relevant topics centered on Black history and the theme of the month. A Q&A session follows the speech. Past speakers have included: Nikki Giovanni, Harry Belofonte, Stephen A. Smith, Tavis Smiley, Judge Greg Mathis, and Spike Lee.
