ROB BOWMAN, MUSICOLOGY
Bowman's work as an interpreter and documentarian of historical recordings of popular
music has been recognized internationally. A five-time Grammy Award nominee, he won
a Grammy in 1996 for Best Album Notes for his monograph accompanying the 10-CD boxed
set of The Complete Stax/Volt Soul Singles which he co-produced.

ADAM DIEGEL, TENOR
This season Diegel performed in Das Rheingold, Madama Butterfly and Nabucco at the Metropolitan Opera. He was a National Finalist in the 2003 Metropolitan Opera
National Auditions .

JACK HALE, RECORD PRODUCER
This former member of the Memphis Horns has toured with Johnny Cash and recorded with
dozens of music legends from Al Green, Rufus Thomas and Willie Nelson to Keith Richards,
the Doobie Brothers and Elvis Presley. He currently owns and operates Hale House Productions in Nashville.

KIP LORNELL, MUSICOLOGY
Lornell is an Associate Professorial Lecturer at George Washington University, a Research
Associate at the Smithsonian Institution, author of five music related books, and
the recipient of a 1997 Grammy for his work on the Anthology of American Folk Music.

MULGREW MILLER, JAZZ PIANIST
Miller has performed with the Mercer Ellington Orchestra, Betty Carter, trumpeter
Woody Shaw, Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers and drummer Tony Williams. Miller is
the Director of Jazz Studies at William Paterson University.

LOUIS OTEY, BARITONE
A major stage personality noted for his incisive and provocative interpretations,
baritone Louis Otey has performed with leading theaters throughout the world including
Houston Grand Opera, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Connecticut Opera, Indianapolis Opera,
Opera Hamilton, Victoria State Opera in Australia and in Graz, Austria.

GAIL ROBINSON, SOPRANO
Robinson sang with the Metropolitan Opera for nearly two decades starting in 1970
and went on to a career as a teacher and guide to emerging singers, notably as a director
of the Met’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program.

SHARON OH, VIOLIN
Upon her graduation from the U of M, Sharon pursued the Master of Music at the Manhattan
School of Music in New York City where she was chosen concertmaster of the School
orchestra. She has participated at music festivals including Tanglewood Institute, Yellowbarn
Young Artists Program and Kneisel Hall Festival.

WILLIE ANTHONY WATERS, CONDUCTOR
Waters is a regular guest of opera companies in North America, Europe and Africa.
For twelve years, he served as General and Artistic Director of the Connecticut Opera,
for whom he conducted more than thirty productions. He also served as Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Florida Grand
Opera for seven seasons.

XIAO - OU ZHAO, CONDUCTOR
Xiao-Ou Zhao is currently the Assistant Dean of the conducting department at the Shanghai
Conservatory of Music. After receiving his Master’s degree in 2005, he was awarded
a full scholarship to the American Academy of Conducting at the Aspen Music Festival.
Since completing those studies, he has had a busy schedule conducting concerts in
China, the United States and Europe.
