With a variety of choral and other vocal performance ensembles ranging from classical to contemporary styles, numerous performing opportunities are available to music majors and non-music majors. In addition to U of M ensembles, the Memphis community offers students participation in such organizations as Opera Memphis, the Memphis Vocal Arts Ensemble, the Memphis Early Music Ensemble and Southern Opera Theater. Chamber Choir

Chamber Choir is a twenty voice select chamber choir for undergraduate and graduate students. This exciting ensemble performs works of many style periods ranging from early Renaissance through contemporary. The group performs on the university campus and in schools throughout the Memphis area and the Mid-South. Singers are selected by audition at the beginning of each semester. The ensemble rehearses on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00 to 2:30 pm. Members may earn one hour of undergraduate or graduate credit per semester and scholarships are available. Gospel Choir

The Gospel Choir is a non-audition group of thirty-to-forty singers that performs traditional and contemporary gospel and traditional Negro spirituals. The group presents at least one concert per semester on campus and additional performances at local churches and schools. The Choir rehearses on Monday and Wednesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Singers receive one hour of undergraduate credit. For more information, contact Dr. Allen Todd.

Collegiate Choir

If you love to sing, join the new Collegiate Choir. All students regardless of major are welcome and there is no audition. Earn one hour credit toward your degree. Everyone is welcome to join. The choir meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 to 9:25 a.m. Register for MUAP 2007 when you sign up for your classes.
