About Elise Blatchford
Hailed for her "superb command of color and nuance" by Cleveland's Plain Dealer, Elise
Blatchford is a founding member of the City of Tomorrow, a contemporary music-focused
wind quintet that took first place at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition
in 2011. Since then, the City of Tomorrow has toured the United States and Canada,
making appearances at Old First Performances in San Francisco, the Dame Myra Hess
Memorial Series in Chicago, and the DiMenna Center in New York City. The City of Tomorrow
collaborated with Schoenberg scholar Henk Guittart and Gruppo Montebello on a group
of recordings by Second Viennese School composers at the Banff Centre in Alberta in
December 2012. As a former member of the YOA Orchestra of the Americas, Ms. Blatchford
has played under the batons of Valery Gergiev, Carlos Miguel Prieto, and Dante Anzollini,
and with YOA toured Brazil, Colombia, Argentina, Peru, Ecuador, Uruguay, and throughout
mainland China. As a mentor, Ms. Blatchford has traveled to Latin America and the
Caribbean to coach chamber musicians and flutists. She has worked with musicians of
the Filarmónica Joven de Colombia, NEOJIBA in Bahia, Brazil, and Traveling Notes in
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. With the City of Tomorrow, Ms. Blatchford has given
master classes in chamber music and flute playing to students at San Francisco Conservatory
of Music, Williams College, the University of Western Michigan, and Willamette University,
Ms. Blatchford earned degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Her teachers have included Tim Day, Michel Debost, and Kathleen Chastain.
