This ensemble is a recent and very successful addition to the U of M Jazz Division. They perform the works of Miles Davis, Gerry Mulligan, Johnny Carisi, Gil Evans, as well as original works. Hear the Birth of the Cool Ensemble play Gerry Mulligan's "Jeru" (Quicktime required)

The Faculty Jazz Players regularly perform at the University of Memphis, the U of M "Jazz Week," and at other venues in the Mid-South region. The group has recently performed with internationally known vocalists Joyce Cobb and Roseanna Vitro. The repertoire the ensemble performs consists of their own original works as well as repertoire from groups such as Art Blakey, Charlie Parker/Dizzy Gillespie, Clifford Brown/Max Roach and others.
