Audition Information
Audition days are held to determine admission into School of Music programs for undergraduates and graduates. They are held to determine Undergraduate Talent-based/Performance Scholarships and Graduate Assistantships. All undergraduate students who want to major or minor in music must audition. Graduate applicants audition for Performance, Conducting, Pedagogy, and Jazz. Undergraduate students who do not intend to major or minor in music but want to apply for scholarship must apply to the School of Music for Lessons Only and Scholarship and audition; a very limited number of non-music majors or minors are awarded School of Music scholarships.

Live auditions are highly preferred. The School of Music will accept non-edited video recorded auditions from international students who reside outside the United States. The preferred deadline for recorded audition submission from international students is December 1 and no later than January 1. Recorded auditions must include appropriate repertoire listed in Audition Requirements. The Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music reserves the right to require a live audition on campus if necessary.

Students who want to be a member of the marching band, the Mighty Sound of the South, and do not plan to major or minor in music, may call 901-678-2263 to schedule a Marching Band Audition.

Keep in mind that undergraduates seeking School of Music talent-based performance scholarships are encouraged to apply to the School of Music by December 1, audition by the end of February, and be accepted by the University of Memphis before their audition day. Also remember that Incoming Freshmen who seek University of Memphis academic scholarships must be accepted by the University by December 1.

Graduates who seek School of Music Assistantships should apply to the School by February 1, audition by the end of February, and apply to the University by March 1.
