All undergraduate students who want to Major or Minor in Music or take Applied Lessons must audition. Visits to the School of Music and University of Memphis are suggested. Early auditions are highly encouraged.

To schedule an audition, submit an online Application Form to the School of Music at http://www.memphis.edu/music/future/forms.php by January 1.

Live auditions are preferred.  The School of Music will accept videotapes or DVDs from international students who reside outside the U.S. The preferred deadline for video submission from international students is December 1 and no later than January 1.  Tapes must include appropriate repertoire listed in audition requirements.  The Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music reserves the right to require a live audition on campus if necessary. Complete the appropriate audition application from http://www.memphis.edu/music/future/forms.php and send your tape to:  Music Admissions, University of Memphis, Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music, 129 Music Bldg., Memphis, TN  38152.

Students who want to be a member of the Mighty Sound of the South and do not plan to Major or Minor in music, may call 901.678.2263 to schedule a Marching Band Audition.

SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION

All University of Memphis students may apply for School of Music Talent-based/Performance Scholarships, which are determined by audition, ensemble needs, and funds.  Students applying for Undergraduate School of Music scholarships must apply to the University and to the School of Music by January 1.  Graduate assistantship applicants must apply to the University and to the School of Music by March 1.  Scholarship and assistantship applicants must have two letters of recommendation from professionals who know the applicant’s musical skills and experience sent to the School of Music by the applicant’s audition day; recommendations may be turned in on audition day.  All undergraduate applicants who have been fully accepted by the University by February 1 are given priority consideration for University academic scholarships, which are primarily based on GPA and ACT or SAT scores.  Notices are mailed beginning in mid-March to School of Music undergraduate scholarship recipients.
