Audition days are for admissions, undergraduate scholarships, and graduate assistantships.
AUDITION INFORMATION
Audition days are held to determine admission into School of Music programs for Undergraduates
and Graduates. They are held to determine Undergraduate Talent-based/Performance
Scholarships and Graduate Assistantships. All undergraduate students who want to major
or minor in music or take applied lessons must audition. Visits to the School of Music
and University of Memphis are suggested. Early auditions are highly encouraged.
To schedule an audition, submit an online Undergraduate or Graduate application form
to the School of Music at http://www.memphis.edu/music/future/forms.php by January 1. If you select to audition on December 1, apply before November 1.
Live auditions are preferred. The School of Music will accept video recordings from
international students who reside outside the U.S. The preferred deadline for video
submission from international students is December 1 and no later than January 1.
Tapes must include appropriate repertoire listed in audition requirements. The Rudi
E. Scheidt School of Music reserves the right to require a live audition on campus

Students who want to be a member of the Mighty Sound of the South and do not plan
to Major or Minor in music, may call 901.678.2263 to schedule a Marching Band Audition.
UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION
All University of Memphis students may apply for School of Music Talent-based/Performance
Scholarships, which are determined by audition, ensemble needs, and funds. Two letters
of recommendation from professionals who know the applicant's musical skills and experience
must be provided on or before the applicant's audition day.
Scholarship applicants must apply to the University and to the School of Music by
January 1 and audition for the School of Music by the end of February. All undergraduate
applicants who have been fully accepted by the University by February 1 are given
priority consideration for University academic scholarships, which are primarily based
on GPA and ACT or SAT scores.
The School of Music mails notices beginning in mid-March to undergraduate scholarship
recipients.
GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIP INFORMATION
Graduate assistantship applicants must apply to the School of Music by February 1,
audition by the end of February and apply to the University by March 1.
AUDITION DAY SCHEDULE
Audition days begin at the University of Memphis Music Building, 3775 Central Avenue
at 8:15 AM. Applicants are greeted at a check-in table where they are given the schedule
of the day. Auditionees should plan to be available from 8:15 a.m. until mid-afternoon.
Undergraduate auditionees receive audition results by mail within two weeks after
their audition.
