About String Orchestra Honor Festival

It is our pleasure to invite High School Orchestra Directors and private string teachers to nominate students for the 2017 University of Memphis Honors String Orchestra Festival, which will be held at the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music on the University of Memphis campus in Memphis, TN from October 26th to the 28th. Deadline for nominations is Friday October 6th, 2017 and the cost is $35 per student due at registration on October 26th.

The University of Memphis Honors String Orchestra Festival is designed as an enriching musical experience for high school grade string players. In this inaugural year of the festival, students will have many exciting opportunities including:

  • Preparing a string orchestra concert featuring a wide variety of repertoire under the baton of Maestro Robert Moody, Music Director of the Memphis Symphony Orchestra
  • Working with the University of Memphis applied string professors on instrumental technique, festival repertoire, and All West audition music
  • Participating in a Musician's Wellness Clinic
  • Experiencing live chamber and orchestral music in concerts featuring University of Memphis Chamber Ensembles, the Ceruti String Quartet, and the Memphis Symphony Orchestra.

We invite High School Orchestra Directors and private strings teachers to nominate students. Nomination forms can be found on the Nominations page of this website. Orchestra Directors and Private Studio teachers may fill out one application for all of their students.

Students selected to participate will arrive on Thursday afternoon, October 26th for seating auditions and an evening concert presented by the University of Memphis Chamber Ensembles and the Ceruti String Quartet. Everyone participating in the festival is expected to practice their music ahead of time. Students will begin rehearsing Friday morning and will perform a concert on Saturday, October 28th at 1:00 pm which is free and open to the public.
