Nineteen
judges, judicial educator faculty members, and other participants
from California, Minnesota, West Virginia, Kentucky, Vermont,
Michigan, and New York will participate in the Institute for
Faculty Excellence in Judicial Education (IFEJE) April 9-12
at the Whispering Woods Hotel and Conference Center in Olive
Branch, Miss. Four more participants from Colorado and Nevada
are expected to complete their projects this year.
IFEJE
targets the unique needs of judges that are not addressed
in the traditional legal education system in the United States.
In addition, it provides an opportunity for judges to interact
with other judges in an educational setting, learning from
the experiences and diversity each participant brings to the
institute.
IFEJE
has been funded by the State Justice Institute (SJI) since
1997. It has been housed at The University of Memphis' Center
for the Study of Higher Education since 2001 under the direction
of Dr. Patricia H. Murrell.
The
Institute's goal is excellence in the professional and personal
development of judges, judicial educators and other court
personnel who are actively involved in judicial branch education.
More than 100 participant judges have returned to their jurisdictions
after designing and implementing creative projects to benefit
the justice system.
For
more information, contact Murrell at 901-678-2775.
