The multi-talented Ben Stein - actor, author, activist, economist, lawyer, and entertainer - will speak at the University of Memphis at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 14, in the Michael D. Rose Theatre.

Admission is free, but tickets are necessary to assure a seat. Advance tickets will be available to the public after noon on Friday, April 11 at the Information Desk of the University Center.

Stein achieved instant fame in 1986 by playing the part of the boring teacher in the film Ferris Bueller's Day Off. He went on to play recurring characters in Charles in Charge and The Wonder Years. He hosted a hit quiz show, Win Ben Stein's Money, which won six Emmys, including one for Stein as best game show host.

Stein graduated from Columbia University with a degree in economics. He was valedictorian of the Yale University Law School, where he also worked as a poverty lawyer and activist for civil rights and better treatment of the poor.
After graduation, Stein worked as a poverty lawyer and college teacher. He was a speechwriter for Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford and a columnist for The Wall Street Journal.

Stein then moved to Hollywood to become a novelist, television sitcom writer and movie scriptwriter. His novel Ludes, about drug and money addiction in Los Angeles, was made into the film The Boost.

He is currently a judge on the CBS show Star Search.

Stein's talk is sponsored by the University Honors Program, the Memphis Economics Club and the Student Activities Council.
