of M Will Host Ben Stein April 14

The
multi-talented Ben Stein - actor, author, activist, economist,
lawyer, and entertainer - will speak at the University of
Memphis at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 14, in the Michael D. Rose
Theatre.
Admission
is free, but tickets are necessary to assure a seat. Advance
tickets will be available to the public after noon on Friday,
April 11 at the Information Desk of the University Center.
Stein
achieved instant fame in 1986 by playing the part of the boring
teacher in the film Ferris Bueller's Day Off. He went
on to play recurring characters in Charles in Charge
and The Wonder Years. He hosted a hit quiz show, Win
Ben Stein's Money, which won six Emmys, including one
for Stein as best game show host.
Stein
graduated from Columbia University with a degree in economics.
He was valedictorian of the Yale University Law School, where
he also worked as a poverty lawyer and activist for civil
rights and better treatment of the poor.
After graduation, Stein worked as a poverty lawyer and college
teacher. He was a speechwriter for Presidents Richard Nixon
and Gerald Ford and a columnist for The Wall Street Journal.
Stein
then moved to Hollywood to become a novelist, television sitcom
writer and movie scriptwriter. His novel Ludes, about
drug and money addiction in Los Angeles, was made into the
film The Boost.
He
is currently a judge on the CBS show Star Search.

Economics Club and the Student Activities Council.
