Poet Mark Yakich Will Visit River City Writers Series April 21

The University of Memphis ' River City Writers Series will host poet Mark Yakich for a presentation Thursday, April 21. He will give a reading of his work on at 4 p.m. in Patterson Hall, Room 456. The event is free and open to the public.

Yakich graduated from the U of M in 2001 with an MFA degree. His first book of poems, Unrelated Individuals Forming a Group Waiting to Cross, was a winner of the 2003 National Poetry Series and was published by Penguin Books in 2004. A new chapbook will be published by Tupelo Press this fall. Yakich's poems have appeared in the Harvard Review, Crazyhorse, Denver Quarterly and elsewhere. The Writer's Almanac, a radio program hosted by Garrison Keillor, also has featured his work. Yakich teaches poetry and creative writing at Central Michigan University.

The River City Writers Series is sponsored by the Student Activities Council, the English Department, the Creative Writing Club, Sigma Tau Delta, The Hohenberg Foundation, Academic Enrichment Funds, Public Service Funds, Friends of the University Library and Deborah Talbot.
