The Herff College of Engineering will hold its first-ever “Girls in Manufacturing” (GiM) summer program for high school girls. In a fun atmosphere, students will learn about engineering, science, and technology, and will develop skills that can lead to success in careers where women are underrepresented.
There is no cost to attend. Participants who complete the program will each receive a $100 cash award. The deadline for registration is May 25.
GiM highlights include a robotics competition, a field trip to a manufacturing plant and daily guest speakers. In addition, students will build their own manufactured product.
The program will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 18-22, at the Herff College of Engineering on the University of Memphis campus. It is sponsored by a grant from Carrier Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation.
