The
University of Memphis was awarded the highest institutional
honor - the Award for Excellence - by the Association for
Higher Education Facilities Officers (APPA), for its commitment
to excellence in the field of educational facilities. Pam
Cash accepted the award on behalf of the U of M during the
closing banquet at APPA's Educational Facilities Leadership
Forum in Washington, D.C.
APPA
represents nearly 4,500 educational institutions in the U.S.,
Canada, and other countries.
"The
University of Memphis' division of facilities management,
led by Jim Hellums, is worthy of the Award for Excellence,
because the institution is successful in deploying some of
the most creative and innovative facilities management strategies
existing within the profession today," said APPA president
Brooks H. Baker III.
The
APPA Award for Excellence is designed to recognize and advance
excellence in the field of educational facilities. Originally
established in 1988, the Award for Excellence is APPA's highest
institutional honor and provides educational institutions
the opportunity for national and international recognition
for their outstanding achievements in facilities management.
