30 Freshman Convocation Will Welcome U of M First-timers

Students
entering college are embarking on a new stage of their lives.
Freshmen at the University of Memphis will mark that beginning
with the Freshman Convocation on Monday, Aug. 30, at 2 p.m.
in the Michael D. Rose Theatre.
During
the ceremony, participants will be introduced to U of M traditions
and will receive advice on becoming successful students.
Alumni
and students will share their stories of life at the U of
M. Other speakers will include President Shirley Raines, Provost
Ralph Faudree, and Dr. Rosie Bingham, vice president for student
affairs.
Entertainment
will be provided by the U of M Pep Band, cheerleaders, and
Pouncer, the Tiger mascot.
Following
Convocation, there will be a picnic, entertainment, and games
on the Alumni Mall.
Between
1,900 and 2,000 first-time freshmen will be enrolled at the
U of M this fall. August 30 is also the University's first
day of classes for the new academic year.
