The Institute for Intelligent Systems (IIS) at the University of Memphis' FedEx Institute of Technology will host CEO and inventor, David Hanson, August 16-20. Hanson is the inventor of Human Emulation Robotics (HER) - called "the most advanced in the world" by the BBC and one of the "six technologies that will change the world" by CNN. The University's IIS, under the leadership of Dr. Art Graesser, is partnering with Hanson to integrate HER's facial robotics with the IIS's internationally known conversational software, AutoTutor.

During his visit Hanson will be meeting with campus researchers and potential investors to highlight the attributes of his facial robotic systems, which can be used in a variety of venues, including retail stores, shopping malls, restaurants, game centers, science museums and trade shows.

On Thursday, August 19th, 9:30-10:30 a.m., Hanson and Graesser will demonstrate their work. This event is open to the public. The demonstration will take place in the lobby of the FedEx Institute, located at 365 Innovation Drive on the campus of the University of Memphis.

According to Executive Director of the FedEx Institute, Dr. Andrew Meyers, "This is exactly the type of partnership the FedEx Institute was designed to facilitate. By connecting University researchers with others at the forefront of innovation in the public and private sectors, we will provide opportunities for both the commercial development of new technologies and student learning in an emerging technology field."
