During the ceremony, participants will learn about U of M traditions and hear advice on how to become successful students. Alumni and friends will share their stories of life at the U of M. Other speakers will include President Shirley Raines, Provost Ralph Faudree, and Dr. Rosie Bingham, vice president for student affairs.

Entertainment will be provided by the U of M Pep Band, cheerleaders, and Pouncer, the Tiger mascot.

Following Convocation, there will be food, entertainment, and games in the UC Ballroom.

Aug. 29 also is the University's first day of classes for the new academic year.
