|Aug. 28 Event Will Officially Inaugurate U of M Freshmen's College Experience

Students entering college are embarking on a new and exciting phase of their lives. The University of Memphis will mark the beginning of that journey with a Freshman Convocation on Monday, Aug. 28. The event gets underway at 2 p.m. in the Michael D. Rose Theatre .
Participants will learn about University traditions and will get advice on how to become successful students. Alumni and friends will share stories of their lives and experiences at the University of Memphis . Other speakers will include President Shirley Raines, Provost Ralph Faudree, Vice President for Student Affairs Rosie Bingham and Men's Basketball Coach John Calipari.
Entertainment will be provided by the U of M Pep Band, cheerleaders, and the Tiger mascot, Pouncer. Refreshments and more entertainment will follow in the University Center Ballroom.
August 28 is also the first day of classes of the University's 2006-07 academic year.
