|Richard Lou Named Chair of Art Department

Richard Lou will join the University of Memphis this fall as chair of the Art Department. He was previously chair of the Art Department at Georgia College & State University for six years and also was chair of the Art and Drama Department at San Diego Mesa College.
The son of a Chinese father and a Mexican mother, Lou was born in San Diego and grew up there and in Mexico. His projects, installations and performances are mediated through photography and video, and frequently address issues related to the identity and politics of the U.S.-Mexico borderlands where he was reared.
Lou’s work has been exhibited widely in such venues as the Museum of Contemporary Art in San Diego, DePauw Art Center in Indiana, and the Grey Gallery at New York University, as well as in Istanbul, Turkey, Manchester, England, and Venice, Italy. He was curator and essayist in the 2000 traveling exhibition “Hecho en Califas: the Last Decade.”
He earned his B.A. degree in fine arts from California State University, Fullerton, and his M.F.A. degree from Clemson University.
