Lack of health insurance coverage among millions of Americans is one of the nation's most pressing challenges. Although many people believe the uninsured are mostly poor and unemployed, this isn't the case. Loss of health coverage can happen to anyone at any time.
WKNO television – in a joint project with the University of Memphis and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center – will present "It Matters: Healthcare – Are You Covered?" at 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, in the Main Stage Theater at the U of M. The event is free and open to the public.
Moderated by Germantown Mayor Sharon Goldsworthy, the program will present the issues of health care coverage in a Socratic-style debate. The purpose is not to provide solid answers, but to encourage thought and discussion on the topic. The program will be videotaped for broadcast on WKNO-TV in January.
WKNO, the Memphis public television station, began producing the public affairs series "It Matters" in 2003 through a grant from the Assisi Foundation. Since then it has presented panel discussions and public meetings on subjects such as the Memphis City Schools, county structure, and urban sprawl.
