U of M Law Student Is Honored With Diversity Scholars Award

Augusta Akpotu, a second-year student at the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law, has received the Diversity Scholars Award for the state of Tennessee from the law firm of Constangy, Brooks & Smith.

The award recognizes the achievements of law students while promoting diversity in the legal profession. Recipients are selected on the basis of academic achievement; commitment to diversity in the community, school or work environment; and personal achievement in overcoming challenges to meet goals. The firm awards scholarships to a second-year student in each of the regions where it has offices.

Akpotu is president of the Association for Trial Lawyers of America and the International Law Students Association. She also is professional liaison co-chair of the U of M chapter of the Black Law Students Association and a member of the Association of Women Attorneys.
