"Sandy" Schaeffer III, associate director of the Advanced
Learning Center at The University of Memphis' FedEx Technology
Institute, has been accepted to the Frye Leadership Institute.
The
Frye Institute serves as a training ground for future information
technology leaders in higher education. It is supported by
a grant from the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation and is sponsored
by the Council of Library and Information Resources, EDUCAUSE
and Emory University. Those selected must be nominated by
a leader in the higher education community and must design
a project that is consistent with the purposes of the Institute
and which benefits the participant's campus.
"I'm
extremely excited about the opportunity and am flattered to
have been accepted into the program," said Schaeffer. "My
efforts in launching the Advanced Learning Center and assisting
the development of the FedEx Institute will most certainly
benefit from this opportunity."
Some
forty individuals from higher education - including faculty
members, librarians, technology professionals and administrators
- who aspire to a more significant leadership role are selected
each year. They
spend two weeks during the summer working on their projects
at Emory and participate in other exercises during the year.
"It's
an honor to be accepted," said Dr. Jim Penrod, U of M vice
president for Information Systems. "Sandy's project should
further the development of the Advanced Learning Center and
the information fluency efforts for faculty and staff."
Dr.
John Ellis, associate director of the FedEx Institute, was
The U of M's first Frye Institute scholar.
