Ethics Will be Topic of Noted Scholar's Talk Feb. 23

Internationally
renowned communication scholar Dr. George E. Cheney will discuss
professional ethics at the seventh annual Michael M. Osborn
Communication Lecture at the University of Memphis.
His
presentation, "Discourses of Professional Ethics in an
Age of Careerism, Consumerism and Contingency - or How Americans
Minimize Ethics at Work, and What Can Be Done About It,"
will begin at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, in the Fogelman Executive
Center, Room 123. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Cheney
is a professor of communication at the University of Utah.
He also is an adjunct professor in the Department of Management
Communication at the University of Waikato in Hamilton, New
Zealand. Recognized for teaching and research, Cheney often
lectures internationally in Western Europe and Latin America.
Cheney
has authored, co-authored, or co-edited four books and has
published more than 70 articles, chapters and editorials.
He is the recipient of a number of awards, including Research
Article of the Year from the National Communication Association,
Golden Anniversary Monograph from the National Communication
Association, and Best Book from the International Communication
Association.
His
teaching and research interests encompass organizational communication,
contemporary theory and rhetorical criticism, and applied
ethics. His specific areas of emphasis include: identity and
power in organizations, quality of worklife, employee participation
and workplace democracy, the marketization of society, corporate
social responsibility and globalization.
The
