|Ann Beattie Will Be Guest Speaker for River City Writers Series Feb. 16-17

The University of Memphis' River City Writers Series will open its spring season with Ann Beattie, author of seven novels and eight collections of stories. On Feb. 16 she will read from her works at 8:30 p.m. in the University Center Faulkner Lounge. On Feb. 17 she will be available for an interview with students from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in Patterson Hall, Room 456. Both events are free and open to the public.
Beattie's latest collection is Follies: New Stories. She has been included in four O. Henry Award Collections and John Updike's Best American Short Stories of the Century. She has received awards from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, a Guggenheim Fellowship, and the PEN/Malamud Award for Excellence in the Short Story.
In addition to Follies, her body of work includes the novels Falling in Place, Picturing Will, Another You, and The Doctor's House, as well as short stories in Burning House, What Was Mine, Park City, and Perfect Recall.
The River City Writers Series is sponsored by the Student Activities Council, the English Department, the Creative Writing Club, Sigma Tau Delta, the Hohenberg Foundation, Deborah Talbot, Academic Enrichment Funds, Public Service Funds, and Friends of the University Libraries.
