Albert Cantu Named Economic Educator of the Year

Albert Cantu, president of Terminix International, received the 2003-04 Economics Educator of the Year Award from the Department of Economics of the Fogelman College of Business and Economics at the University of Memphis. Cantu is a member of the Department's advisory board; and Terminix's parent company, ServiceMaster, recently made a contribution of $25,000 to the department's Center for Economic Education. Cantu has long been supportive and involved in the Center's efforts to promote economic and financial literacy in K-12 education, said Dr. Julie Heath, professor and chair of the Department of Economics. "His creativity and his considerable talents have helped develop the Center and the Department and have helped us fulfill our mission of service to the community," she added. Cantu advises the Center regarding marketing and public relations. He also speaks to classes of economics majors and prospective majors about the value of economics in the corporate world. A resident of Germantown, Cantu holds two degrees from the U of M. He earned his bachelor of business administration degree in 1983 and his MBA in 1985.
