The
University of Memphis is saluting the American flag this summer
with an exhibit in the Ned R. McWherter Library.
A
display in the first-floor foyer of the library offers visitors
an opportunity to view documents pertaining to the general,
historical and controversial aspects of the flag. Included
are books on the history of the American flag, the story behind
Flag Day, Supreme Court decisions regarding the flag, and
transcripts of Congressional hearings on a proposed Constitutional
amendment to prevent desecration of the flag.
The
display is organized by the Government Publications Department
of the University Libraries. The McWherter Library is a regional
depository library for federal government publications.
