Incoming
freshmen at the University of Memphis can learn the secrets
to navigating college life at Frosh Camp, a four-day program
set on the grounds of Camp NaCoMe in Pleasantville, Tenn.
In the informal camp setting, freshmen can have fun and meet
more than 200 of their future fellow students, while learning
important aspects about life at the University of Memphis.
Created
in 1994, Frosh Camp is organized and run totally by students.
The program has grown from serving 60 freshmen to more than
400 in two sessions.
Groups
of freshmen are divided into "families" for a variety
of activities. Campers get to produce a video in a workshop
designed to introduce freshmen to art, drama and music at
the U of M. A traditionally favorite session provides secrets
to parking, dorm life, leaving home and juggling time. There
are also tips on show to deal with peer pressure and social
issues and a chance to sign up for campus organizations and
activities.
Dates
for 2003 Frosh Camp are July 21-24 and Aug. 4-7.
The
registration deadline is July 14.
