The Math, Assistive Technology, and Reading Program at the University of Memphis will host a week-long training session for educators June 21-25. Sessions will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day in the Fogelman Executive Center.

MATR is a professional development program designed to help educators effectively teach reading and math to special-needs students in a general classroom setting. Working in teams of four (a general teacher, special education teacher, teacher assistant, and curriculum or literacy leader), participating educators will learn how to use, and train others to use, strategies of inclusion and tools that promote the independence of students with disabilities.

The MATR premise is that all students benefit from the incorporation of inclusive strategies and assistive technology in learning reading and math.

MATR training will be held periodically through May 2005. For more information on the training and how to schedule training sessions, call 901-678-1740.
