Lyons Named Outstanding Student Advisers

For
the second year, The University of Memphis will present Distinguished
Advising Awards to faculty and staff members during the University's
annual Faculty Convocation. Sherry L. Bryan will be recognized
as this year's outstanding faculty adviser and Dr. Bonita
S. Lyons as the outstanding professional staff adviser. Each
will receive a $2,000 award at the March 28 recognition ceremony.
Bryan
is an associate professor in the University's architecture
program, which is part of the College of Communication and
Fine Arts.
Lyons
is manager of the Office of Academic Status and Retention
Services.
Dr.
Tom Nenon, assistant vice provost for academic affairs, said
good advising is an essential part of the educational mission
at the University. "Good advising goes beyond just helping
students select the right classes," Nenon said. "It
involves helping them find their way through the University,
helping them find a direction that will be right for them
in life, and helping them find themselves."
