of M Will Host Regional Aeronautics Student Conference April
5 & 6

More
than 200 engineering students from across the southeastern
United States are expected to attend the American Institute
for Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Region II Student
Conference on April 5 and 6 at the University of Memphis.
Activities will be held at the FedEx Institute of Technology
and the Holiday Inn at the U of M.
Jim
Phillips, former executive director of the FedEx Institute,
will be the speaker for Monday's luncheon. John Swihart, a
retired vice president of the Boeing Co. and the man who is
considered the father of the Boeing 767, will speak at the
Tuesday evening awards banquet.
The
students will present research on aeronautics and astronautics.
Amanda Winter, a U of M graduate student in mechanical engineering,
will present a paper entitled "Simulation of On-Orbit
Magnetic Positive Positioning of Propellants."
Sponsors and participants include NASA's Marshall Space Flight
Center, FedEx, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Delta Airlines, the
U.S. Air Force, and the United Space Alliance.
The
conference is hosted by the U of M's AIAA student branch.
The AIAA is the principal society for aerospace engineers
and scientists.
