The
23rd annual Freedom of Information Congress co-sponsored by
the University of Memphis student chapter of the Society of
Professional Journalists and the University of Memphis Student
Activities Council will feature CNN's Anderson Cooper in a
free and open to the public presentation on Tuesday, March
30 at 7 p.m., in the Rose Theater on the University campus.
Cooper
hosts 360° on CNN at 6 p.m., a full circle, unconventional,
wide-ranging news program. Since joining CNN, Cooper has anchored
major breaking news stories, including the network's live
overnight coverage of the war in Iraq, as news of the military
conflict was unfolding during the day in Baghdad. Because
of his background as a war correspondent for Channel One News,
Cooper was sent to Afghanistan after the September 11, 2001,
terrorist attacks to report on the U.S. military conflict.
He is being sent back to Afghanistan early next month.
Cooper
will describe his career and background. He will also discuss
using the Freedom of Information Act, which is often necessary
when hunting down details of military conflict.
In
addition to his public address, Cooper will be working in
the classroom and news laboratories with students in the Department
of Journalism.
