14 Hohenberg Lecture Will Explore Medieval Zurich

Dr.
Joan A. Holladay will present the lecture "Competing
for Saints in the Middle Ages: the Case of Zurich" on
March 14 at 2:30 p.m. in the Hohenberg Auditorium at the Memphis
Brooks Museum of Art.
The
talk, which is free and open to the public, will discuss the
two major churches of medieval Zurich, their struggle for
religious and political supremacy, and the role of art and
architecture in that rivalry.
Holladay
holds the Dorothy K. Hohenberg Chair of Excellence at the
University of Memphis for 2004-04. While in that position,
she is developing a book manuscript and teaching courses on
Romanesque and Gothic court art.
She
is a professor of art history at the University of Texas and
specializes in the Gothic art of France and Germany. Her interests
include manuscripts and sculpture, including tomb sculpture
and reliquary busts.
