Second "New Teacher Center" Symposium Will Be April 1-2 at the U of M

The New Teacher Center at the University of Memphis will sponsor its second annual Induction and Mentoring Symposium for classroom teachers, principals, office staff, and teacher educators on Friday and Saturday, April 1-2. Sessions will be held at the U of M Holiday Inn and the Fogelman Executive Center on the U of M campus.

On Friday, workshops will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.; the symposium will take place Friday from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The April 2 symposium will begin at 8 a.m. and run until 1:30 p.m.

Keynote speakers for the symposium will include Asa G. Hilliard III, professor of urban education at Georgia State University, and Susan Moore Johnson, professor of teaching and learning at Harvard Graduate School of Education.

Workshops will focus on reading, English language learners, and special education. They will be led by Robert Cooter, professor and chair of instruction and curriculum leadership at the U of M; Tomasita Villarreal-Carman, outreach coordinator for the New Teacher Center at the University of California-Santa Cruz; and Kathleen S. Cooter, associate professor of special education at the U of M.
