U of M's Memphis Advantage Scholarship Will Assist Under-represented Groups

The University of Memphis is accepting applications for the Memphis Advantage Scholarship. The scholarship program seeks to ensure a diverse student enrollment and to attract rural West Tennessee students to the University.

The award is $4,000 per year for four years.  The application deadline is April 1.

To be eligible, an applicant must be a Tennessee resident, must be a 2007 high school graduate, must have a minimum ACT score of 23, must have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0, and must have a family Adjusted Gross Income of less than $60,000 annually, as indicated on the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).

Applicants must also meet one of the following criteria.  They must come from an under-represented ethnic population; must be a first generation college student; or must be a resident of one of 20 rural West Tennessee counties. The eligible counties include Benton, Carroll, Chester, Crockett, Decatur, Dyer, Fayette, Gibson, Hardeman, Hardin, Haywood, Henderson, Henry, Lake, Lauderdale, Madison, McNairy, Obion, Tipton and Weakley.
