|Tubas Are Coming to U of M, Buckman and Beale Street

More than 200 tuba players, teachers and aficionados are expected to attend the Mid-South Regional Tuba-Euphonium Conference April 20-22 at the University of Memphis Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music. The event is part of a series of regional conferences presented under the auspices of the International Tuba-Euphonium Association. The event will feature clinics, recitals, competitions, exhibits and public concerts. Conference presenters include teachers and professionals from 24 universities and colleges, as well as student ensembles from eight universities.
The conference includes four public concerts:
- Jack Daniel’s Silver Cornet Band, April 20, 7:30 p.m., Michael Rose Theatre
- Daniel Perantoni, tuba, and Brian Bowman, euphonium, April 21, 3 p.m., Harris Concert Hall
- Trombonist Mike Fahn and the Southern Comfort Jazz Orchestra, April 21, 7 - 9:30 p.m., Alfred’s on Beale
- Jens Bjorn-Larsen, tuba, Demondrae Thurman, euphonium, and the U of M Wind Ensemble, April 22, 2:30 p.m., Buckman Performing Arts Center
Events on Friday, April 20, will include programs aimed at younger musicians. Junior high and high school students can gain admission to the full day’s events and the evening concert for only $5.
