Hotelier Frank Flautt Jr. Honored With TBR Chancellor's Philanthropy Award

Frank L. Flautt Jr., hotelier and president of Flautt Inc., has received the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Philanthropy from the Tennessee Board of Regents. The award was presented May 11 during the meeting of the University of Memphis Board of Visitors.

"Since graduating from the University of Memphis in 1963, Frank Flautt has had a rich history of involvement with and support of the University," said U of M President Shirley Raines in her recommendation. "Frank has helped us build a stronger University with stronger ties to the communities we serve."

Flautt has received numerous service awards, including the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2003. He also has been named was named a member of the Society of Entrepreneurs, an organization comprised of outstanding business entrepreneurs in the Mid-South.

Flautt's passion for philanthropy is evident in his enthusiastic support of the U of M's educational programs, including the Fogelman College of Business and Economics and the Wilson School of Hospitality and Resort Management. He created the Wilson School Advisory Board and served as its first chairman, used his leadership abilities and strong industry contacts to raise $3.5 million for scholarships and faculty, and he continues to serve on the board in an advisory capacity.

Flautt has also been a faithful supporter of Tiger athletics. He spearheaded a project that raised $2.5 million for the construction of the Athletic Office Building addition.
