Measure
the efficiency of an airplane wing. Construct a building in
an earthquake zone. Design a speedy robot. Those are a few
of the exhibits visitors can explore at The University of
Memphis Herff College of Engineering "Eday" Friday,
Nov. 22, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The open house will demonstrate
the impact engineers and engineering technologists have on
society, and offer information on degree programs and research
at the College.
During
the morning, hundreds of middle and high school students from
the Memphis and Shelby County Schools will participate in
interactive exhibits and tour engineering labs. The event
will feature displays and demonstrations from the University's
programs in biomedical, civil, computer, electrical, industrial
and systems, and mechanical engineering, as well as computer,
electronics and manufacturing engineering technology. Faculty,
staff and students will be on hand to answer questions and
guide visitors through displays and interactive exhibits.
Among
the exhibits are "Winging It - Measuring the Efficiency
of an Airplane Wing," "Shaking all Over - Building
Construction in Earthquake-Prone Areas" and a robotics
challenge, "My Bot's Faster Than Your Bot."
Last
year's open house drew 1,000 visitors. Alumni, prospective
students and friends of the Herff College are invited to attend.
Reservations are requested for large groups.
