Christian Brothers High School won the second Tiger Academic Classic hosted by the Herff College of Engineering at The University of Memphis on Nov. 16. Cordova High School took second place, Houston High finished third, and St. Benedict at Auburndale was fourth.

The competition allowed high school students to test their knowledge by answering academically-based questions on a wide range of subjects, including literature, math, geography, philosophy and popular culture. Each team played five preliminary matches followed by a 16-team single-elimination playoff.

More than 160 students participated. The top 10 individual scorers were named to a tournament all-star team. They were, in order of score, Joel Avila of Westminster Academy, Luis Huerta of St. Benedict, Camille Dobbins of Cordova, Andy Bost of Lausanne Collegiate School, Ben Gabor of Houston, Peter Sculley of CBHS, Will Brian of Collierville, Matt Morgan of Bartlett, Jeffery Harriss of Hillsboro, and Steven Underwood of Olive Branch.
