The
University of Memphis FedEx Institute of Technology will present
an interactive webcast presentation on nanotechnology and
business by Dr. Meyya Meyyappan at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec.
7.
Mayyappan's
presentation will outline the impact nanotechnology is expected
to have on the world, including an assessment of the opportunities
it will present and the challenges to its commercialization.
Widely
believed to be thus far the most important technology of the
21st century, experts expect nanotechnology's impact will
be felt across many economic sectors including electronics
and data storage, materials and manufacturing, health and
medicine, and energy and transportation.
Meyyappan
is director of the Center for Nanotechnology and a senior
scientist at NASA Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, Cal.
He is a founding member of the Interagency Working Group on
Nanotechnlogy (IWGN) established by the Office of Science
and Technology Policy. The IWGN is responsible for putting
together the National Nanotechnology Initiative.
Among
many honors that Dr. Meyyappan holds, in 2004 he was awarded
the President's Meritorious Award for his contributions to
nanotechnology.
The
event is sponsored by the Riverbend Technology Institute,
the Girvan Institute of Technology, and NASA Ames Center for
Nanotechnology and the University of Memphis FedEx Institute
