Hundreds of students displaced by Hurricane Katrina found their way to the University of Memphis earlier this fall. They enrolled in classes, and some moved into University housing, but many of them weren't able to pack their winter clothes when they were forced to flee their Gulf Coast campuses.

Now, as cooler temperatures approach, these students have little or no warm clothing for the coming winter months. In addition, many evacuees also lack dress clothes needed for job interviews as they try to rebuild their lives.

The University of Memphis Graduate Student Association, and its president, Joe Jackson Frazer Jr., have decided to help. The GSA is asking the U of M community to help those affected by Katrina through a campus-wide clothing drive specifically for University students who are hurricane survivors.

Donors may bring winter clothes and dress clothes to Room 215 of the Administration Building. The GSA will distribute the clothes to displaced students and donate the rest to local charities.

For more information, call the U of M Graduate School at 901-678-2531.
