University of Texas professor John Clarke will discuss “Ancient Roman Sexual Representation and the Modern Invention of Pornography” November 14 in the Meeman Journalism Building. A reception will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the lecture at 7. The event is free and open to the public.
Clarke is a professor of fine arts at UT Austin, where his teaching, research, and writing focus on ancient Roman art, art-historical methodology, and contemporary art. He is the author of five books, including Looking at Laughter: Humor, Power, and Transgression in Roman Visual Art, and Looking at Lovemaking: Constructions of Sexuality in Roman Visual Art. Clarke also has 58 essays, articles and reviews to his credit.
