U of M Will Host Memphis' First SANS Course on Computer Security

For the first time, a SANS computer security course will be offered in Memphis. The six-day course, “SANS Security Essentials Bootcamp Style,” will be taught December 10-15 at the FedEx Institute of Technology on the University of Memphis campus.  Day sessions will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and evening bootcamp from 5:15 to 7 p.m.

SANS (SysAdmin, Audit, Network, Security) is the largest source for information security training and certification in the world. It develops, maintains, and makes available at no cost the largest collection of research documents about various aspects of information security, and it operates the Internet’s early warning system, Internet Storm Center.

The course is designed for systems administrators, security professionals, and others who want to improve their understanding of technical information security.

The instructor will be Jim Purcell, a senior security consultant with Sword & Shield Enterprise Security. He has more has 20 years of experience in all aspects of information technology, including IT security, systems management, systems analysis and design, and networking.

The course prepares students to quality for GSEC certification (Global Securities Essentials Certification).

The fee is $2,850 if registration is completed by November 14, or $3,000 after that date, plus $400 for GSEC certification.  To register, go to www.sans.org/community_sans and click on the “Community SANS Memphis” link.
