WUMR will ring in its eight-day Radiothon IX with a “Jazz for the Holidays Kickoff Jam” November 25 beginning at 6 p.m. at Neil’s Bar & Grille, 1835 Madison Avenue in Memphis.  Doors open at 5 p.m.

The event will feature Sal Crocker & the Strictly Jazz Quartet, with guest appearances by Michael Jefry Stevens, Jack Cooper with University of Memphis jazz performance groups, and Billy Gibson. Tickets are $15 in advance, $17 at the door. Advance tickets are available at Davis-Kidd Booksellers, 387 Perkins Extended in Laurelwood Shopping Center.

Radiothon IX on WUMR (U-92) runs Nov. 25-Dec. 2. Donations will help fund operating expenses at the station.

WUMR is the only jazz station in the Mid-South. Known as “The Jazz Lover,” the 25,000-watt station serves listeners within a 60-mile radius of Memphis. Its playlist blends contemporary and traditional jazz with a touch of fusion, Latin, and New Age music. WUMR is staffed almost exclusively by students and volunteers.

As the radio voice of the University of Memphis, the station serves the area with educational, sports, and community service programming. It also functions as a learning laboratory for students, providing them experience in announcing, news reporting and writing, talk-show hosting, and sportscasting. In addition to on-air positions, students serve in management roles in various departments, such as music, production, traffic, news, and sports.

For Kickoff Jam ticket information, call Davis-Kidd at 901-683-9801.
